Maps can be a pretty important aspect of Minecraft if you”re looking to have a good idea what is going on in your world. To expand what you can do with these, you can utilize the Cartography Table to enlarge, clone, and lock them. We’ll be taking a look at how to make an Cartography Table in Minecraft survival 1.14, 1.15, and 1.16 in this step-by-step guide.
Cartography Tables can be made in all versions of the game, whether it’s PE, PS4, PC, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, or any other platform.
How to create a Cartography Table
Time needed: 10 minutes.
To make an Cartography Table in Minecraft we will just need to find two pieces of paper and four of any wood plank!
- Gather Logs
You’re likely far enough along in the game to have an axe by this point, so just go ahead and chop down a couple of trees to gather up some wood!
- Turn Logs into Planks
Once you’ve got the logs, turn them into wood planks by placing them in your inventory crafting area or into a Crafting Table.
- Get Ingredients for Paper
Paper can be a bit tricky because we’re going to need Sugar Cane. It spawns near water, so you might need to go search for it a bit. When you find some, make sure to punch it at the bottom because it will fully break and you can collect it quicker. I recommend planting some of this near some water at your base because it grows relatively quickly and you’ll have a supply of it always available!
- Create the Paper
Once you’ve got some Sugar Cane, you can craft pieces of paper. Three cane will make three pieces of paper. We need two pieces of paper, which means we just need three! You can also find paper in chests, which can be found in Shipwrecks, Strongholds, and Villages. This obviously isn’t going to be a steady supply, so you’re always better off creating an area to plant Sugar Cane!
- Create the Cartography Table
Now that we have the wood planks and paper we need, we can now put it together to create our Cartography Table! Place two planks in the middle and two planks at the bottom stacked on each other. Place the two pieces of paper at the top above them to make the table!
Now that you have your Cartography Table you can do some interesting things with it. You can add a map and a piece of paper to expand the map size and clear it. You can clone a map by adding a blank map in with another map, and you can also lock the map from being updated by placing the map in with a glass pane.
If you’re playing on Bedrock edition, you can also add a compass to your map to make it a locator. This will show yourself and other players on the map. Would be good for a map wall to see where everyone is at in your world!
